This Soul Wants Privacy (4/13/2025)

This Soul Wants Privacy (4/13/2025)

How long will I be suffering because of this donkey of a body?

It keeps asking constantly for straw and barley.

Yet in the sky, the galaxy of the Milky Way is full of nourishment.

A donkey can’t have a share of that glory.

It is the soul, that peerless one, who has a share of that kingdom.

You have seen the body. Now, look at the soul.

You have seen jewels. Now, look at the mine.

Meaning constantly says,

“Don’t dress me in those old clothes.”

Words are really nothing more than old shirts,

the kind of old shirts which everyone makes fun of.

I say, “O meaning, come.

Come in a form like the soul,

so that old shirts can become silk with soul’s light.”

Quit washing clothes, so no one will hear.

Don’t mind how others react or what they say.

This soul is tired.

This soul wants privacy, even from the angels who are close to God.

Divan-i Kebir, Volume 1, ghazal 45, verses 615-620, page 117.

Do You Know…? (3/9/2025)

Do You Know…? (3/9/2025)

O soul, do you know who your Beloved is?

O heart, do you know who your guest is?

O body which is using every trick to escape,

do you know who is pulling you?

Look and see. He is the one who is searching for you.

From the Heart (1/5/2025)

From the Heart (1/5/2025)

This clay body of mine is the glass for the heart.

My best thought is merely the raw wine of the heart.

A tiny grain of knowledge is nothing but a trap for the heart.

I am saying these words, but they come from the heart.

Break the Seal. Free Love (9/29/2024)

Break the Seal. Free Love. (9/29/2024)

That divine gift, the Water of Life,

is invisible, concealed in this clay body.

The self has put a seal on your heart,

and Love stays imprisoned there.

Break the seal. Free Love. What are you afraid of?

There is a secret path in your heart.

Follow that path to find the Beloved.

The Rubaiyat of Rumi, The Ergin Translations, Volume 3, rubai 1197, page 145.

You are on a Journey (3/26/2023)

You are on a Journey (3/26/2023)

You are neither water nor earth. You are something else.

You are created from mud, but you are not mud.

You are beyond this muddy world.

You are on the journey to your Essence.

Your body is a riverbed. Your soul is the Water of Life.

But, as long as you stay with your self,

you will not know either one.

Crying and Wailing (11/14/2021)

Crying and Wailing (11/14/2021)

O One who kneaded my hands and feet from mud

and gave senses and mind to my body,

O Moon, enlighten my eyes and heart.

Take me into Your arms.

My soul, which chews Your sugar, is crying and wailing for You.
